Homemade body scrub! For all skin types. (with pictures)

We often scrub our face, but pay very little or no attention to our body.
Just like our face it is important to scrub away the dead skin cells of our body as well.

When we scrub our body, it removes all the dead skin cells that block the new skin cells to reach the surface of our skin. This is the reason why it is so important to scrub your body at least once a week.
Scrubbing also allows skin to absorb the products that you use, better.

Now that we know why scrubbing is so important, here are two different recipes to make your own body scrub with the ingredients easily available in your kitchen.

The olive oil and honey scrub:
This scrub is for people who suffer from dry skin.
This scrub will provide nourishment to your skin, along with scrubbing away the unwanted dead skin cells gently.

Things you will need to make the scrub:
• 2 table spoon Olive oil
• 1 teaspoon of honey, and
• 5-6 spoons of granulated sugar.

How to make the scrub:
• In a mixing bowl add two table spoons of extra virgin olive oil.

Image

• Now add honey to this, you can alter the ratio of honey and oil according to your own liking.

• At last add granulated sugar to this mixture until it forms a thick paste.

Mix well.

This is how it looks:

You can easily make a large batch by multiplying the amount and store it in a container. This will stay good to use for a complete month.

This is my favorite scrub of all times.
Remember that the olive oil and the honey together can be extremely moisturizing, So if you have normal or oily skin use lemon instead of olive oil.
I personally use lemon juice.

The second recipe is a great way to use some unused creams and moisturizers that are just lying around your home to make amazing homemade body scrub.

The Body lotion scrub:

For this scrub you can use any cream or body lotion or moisturizer that you don’t use or don’t mind making a body scrub out of it.

Things you will need to make the scrub:
• Any moisturizer or cream or lotion of your choice, and
• Enough Sea salt to make a thick paste.

How to make the scrub:
• Take one-fourth cup of lotion, or according to your requirement.

• Then add enough sea salt to make a thick paste like consistency and mix well.

As easy as this scrub looks, it is a good way to empty those unused bottles and provide extra nourishment to the body.

The best thing about this scrub is that if your moisturizer or lotion has a nice fragrance, you will be smelling good all day long. :)
Scrub your body every week or once a fortnight to keep it healthy and radiant!
And the best thing about this scrubs are that they are inexpensive.
Have fun scrubbing!

Until next time! :)

Use glycerin for soft, smooth and healthy skin!!!

Hey lovelies!! :)

So you must have heard the word ‘Glycerine’ many or at least few times from people around you.

And if you haven’t, no worries! I’ll let you know almost all about it! ;)

Glycerin is a humectant; it attracts moisture from the surrounding to your skin. This means that it holds moisture in the skin, making it an effective ingredient for skin care, particularly for dry skin.

Glycerin can be found in many skin care products, including facial lotion, crème, exfoliant and some makeup.

If you are living in extremely dry weather, pure glycerin can take out moisture from your skin if it does not find moist/ humidity in external environment. Hence whenever you want to use glycerin, just make sure you add few drops of filtered water/rose water so it can absorb.

Glycerin is:

MOISTURIZING

Glycerin is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs water from the air. Hence, it is a must if you have dry skin.

SMOOTHING

Glycerin fills in microscopic voids and cracks in the surface of dry skin. It makes your face appear smoother and healthier.

PROTECTING

Because glycerin helps retain moisture and fills in voids in dry skin, it helps protect the face by maintaining the integrity of the outermost layer of skin.  A study reported in the April 2001 "International Journal of Cosmetic Science" confirmed that glycerin has a beneficial effect on the skin barrier, keeping it hydrated.

EMULSIFYING

Glycerin is added to many products including facial creams to make them thicker and smoother so that they are easier to apply and feel more luxurious. Glycerin helps stabilize emulsions, mixtures of water and oil.

Here is how to use glycerin according to your skin type:

Dry skin:

  • STEAM:

Add 1 teaspoon of glycerin to 2 teaspoon of water. Apply it on your face, neck using cotton ball (including lips and upper & lower eyelashes) take steam for 5-7 minutes.

Wash your face with cold water.

  • Add to face pack:

If you are afraid to use face packs as it can dry your skin more, just add few drops of glycerin + water preferably rose water to face pack and then apply.

Keep for desirable time and wash out. (It does not let face pack dry completely and provides moisture)

  • Moisturizer:

Add few drops in your moisturizer cream and apply.

  • Homemade moisturizer:

Take 3 tbsp of glycerin with 3tbsp of rose water and store it in a clean bottle. Use it as a moisturizer whenever required for your face, hand and feet. You can alter the ratio according to your requirement

Oily skin:

  • Breakouts:

If you are facing problem of breakouts or acne clean your face with glycerin with some rose water added to it.

  • Moisturizer:

Take 3 tbsp of glycerin with 3tbsp of rose water add 1 lemon juice into the mixture and store it in a clean bottle. Use it as a moisturizer.

WARNING:

If you have severe pimples stay away from glycerin for your face because if it can hydrate your face, it can give moisture to your pimples as well.

  • If you still want to use it, apply it carefully avoiding pimples and take steam or just keep for 10-15 minutes then rinse well with cold water.

Normal skin:

  • This type of skin require very little hydration. So whenever you apply glycerin, keep it no more than 5 minutes.

  • Mix glycerin with water. Apply on your face and take steam for 3-5 minutes. Done! J

Tips and warnings:

  • This is only for HYDRATION.

  • It is not for any other purpose like skin whitening, lightning, tightening, acne, pimple, scar, white/black heads etc.

  • Always shake the lotion before applying as glycerin generally settles down at the bottom of the bottle.

  • Remember It can dry your skin by soaking all the moisture if it doesn’t find moisture in air i.e. IN Dry Weather.

So do add few drops of plain water or rose water to it before applying.
